Press release of the European Union of
Jewish Students
The European Union of Jewish Students
is organising a mass demonstration on the 11 July 2000 in Berlin to denounce
the Soviet-style show trial of 10 accused « guilty » Jews who have been
jailed to up to 13 years of prison.
Busloads of young Jews and human rights
activists coming from Germany, Belgium, France, the Netherlands and Poland
shall unite in Berlin on the 11th July which is the date of Iranian
President Khatami official visit to Germany.
Today, innocent Jews are imprisoned and
the supposedly « reformist » President Khatami continues to apply
discriminating policies to minorities and promoting hatred towards the State
of Israel.
Jewish students from across Europe do
not accept this 18 month-long espionage masquerade. It reflects Iran's utter
denial of human rights to its citizens, who are accused of political
manoeuvres that they are not in the least connected to. Since their arrest
in the spring of 1999, they were repeatedly denied contact with the lawyers
of their choice and Iran rejected appeals for international monitoring of
the trial.
